The Center for Addiction Studies and Research is a State of Hawaii Department of Health Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division approved distance learning provider of education in the chemical dependency field. Distance learning courses are approved for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) certification and continuing education requirements.

 

Educational Requirements

Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)

Documentation of 270 hours of approved substance abuse specific education within the ICRC performance domains of assessment, counseling, case management, client education, and professional responsibility.

A maximum of 135 of these hours may be earned through approved distance learning providers.

A minimum of 6 hours of professional ethics, 6 hours of sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS, and 6 hours of confidentiality must be documented as part of the 270 educational hours required.

Continuing Education Requirements

Documentation of 40 hours of approved continuing education every two years. A maximum of 20 of these hours may be earned through distance learning. A minimum of 6 hours of ethics must be documented as part of the continuing education hours.
