The Center for Addiction Studies and Research is an Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA) approved distance learning provider of education in the chemical dependency field. Distance learning courses are approved for Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC), Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CRADC), Certified Supervisor Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CSADC) and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CAADC) certification and continuing education requirements as well as for Certified Prevention, Criminal Justice and Problem Gambling certification and continuing education requirements.

 

Educational Requirements

Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC)

Documentation of 225 hours of substance abuse education. Of the 225 hours, 100 hours must be AODA specific, 119 hours must be relevant to the AODA performance domains.

Of the 100 AODA specific hours, 15 hours must be education in Addiction Treatment Services for Women and/or their Families and 15 hours must be education in Addiction Treatment Services for Adolescents and/or their Families.

Six hours of Professional Ethics and Responsibility is required.

Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CRADC)

Documentation of 300 hours of substance abuse education.
Of the 300 hours, 160 hours must be AODA specific, 134 hours must be relevant to the AODA performance domains.

Of the 160 AODA specific hours, 30 hours must be education in Addiction Treatment Services for Women and/or their Families and 30 hours must be education in Addiction Treatment Services for Adolescents and/or their Families.

Six hours of Professional Ethics and Responsibility is required.

Certified Supervisor Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CSADC)

Documentation of 350 hours of substance abuse education.
Of the 350 hours, 190 hours must be AODA specific, 124 hours must be relevant to the AODA performance domains.

Of the 190 AODA specific hours, 45 hours must be education in Addiction Treatment Services for Women and/or their Families and 45 hours must be education in Addiction Treatment Services for Adolescents and/or their Families.

Documentation of 30 hours of clinical supervision education.

Six hours of Professional Ethics and Responsibility is required.

Certified Advanced Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CAADC)

Master’s Degree or higher in a behavioral science with a clinical application from an accredited college or university.

Documentation of 180 hours of substance abuse specific education.

Of the 180 substance abuse specific hours, 45 hours must be education in Addiction Treatment Services for Women and/or their Families and 45 hours must be education in Addiction Treatment Services for Adolescents and/or their Families.

Six hours of Professional Ethics and Responsibility is required.

Continuing Education Requirements (CADC, CRADC, CSADC, CAADC)

Forty hours of approved continuing education training every two years.
A maximum of 15 of the 40 continuing education hours can be from home study distance learning sources.
