The Center for Addiction Studies and Research

The Center for Addiction Studies and Research is an Indiana Association for Addiction Professionals (IAAP) and an Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ICAADA) approved distance learning provider of education in the chemical dependency field. Distance learning hours are approved for IAAP Certified Addiction Counselor (ICAC I & II) certifications and continuing education requirements and for ICAADA Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADAC I, II & IV) certifications and continuing education requirements.

 

Educational Requirements for Indiana Association for Addiction Professionals (IAAP)

Indiana Certified Addiction Counselor Level I (ICAC I)

Documentation of 270 contact hours of approved addiction-specific education and training.

There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Documentation of a minimum of 6 clock hours of training in each of the following areas:

Ethics; Infectious Diseases; Psychopharmacology; Group Counseling; Skill Development;
Co-Occurring Disorders; HIV/AIDS.

Indiana Certified Addiction Counselor Level II (ICAC II)

Possess a minimum of a Bachelors degree in the health or human services field.

Documentation of 450 contact hours of approved addiction-specific education and training.

There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Documentation of a minimum of 6 clock hours of training in each of the following areas:

Ethics; Infectious Diseases; Psychopharmacology; Group Counseling; Skill Development;

Co-Occurring Disorders; HIV/AIDS.           

Continuing Education Requirements (ICAC I & II)

Documentation of 60 hours of continuing education including 4 hours of ethics training.

A maximum of 12 of the 60 continuing education requirement hours may be earned through approved distance learning education. Requests for the approval of a greater number of continuing education home study hours must be presented to the Indiana Association for Addiction Professionals prior to recredentialing.

Educational Requirements for Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ICAADA)

Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADAC I)

Documentation of 180 hours of approved addiction-specific education and training.

A maximum of 90 of these hours may be earned through approved distance learning education.

Of the 180 hours, 6 hours must be in HIV/AIDS and 6 hours must be in Ethics training.

Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADAC II)

Documentation of 270 hours of approved addiction-specific education and training with a minimum of 90 clock hours in each of the following areas: alcohol, drugs, and counseling.

A maximum of 135 of these hours may be earned through approved distance learning education.

Of the 270 hours, 6 hours must be in HIV/AIDS and 6 hours must be in Ethics training.

Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADAC IV)

Masters degree or higher in a human services field.

Documentation of 300 hours of approved addiction-specific education and training.

A maximum of 150 of these hours may be earned through approved distance learning education.

Of the 300 hours, 6 hours must be in HIV/AIDS and 6 hours must be in Ethics training.

Continuing Education Requirements (CADAC I, II, IV)

Documentation of 40 hours of continuing education every two years.
