The Center for Addiction Studies and Research is an Addiction Counselor Certification Board of Oregon accepted distance learning provider of education in the chemical dependency field. Distance learning courses are accepted for Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) Levels I, II and III, Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) and Certified Gambling Addiction Counselor (Levels I and II) certification and continuing education requirements.

 

Educational Requirements

Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor I (CADC I)

Documentation of 150 hours of approved alcohol and drug education.

Education hours must include topical areas of:

  • Basic Counseling Skills
  • Group Counseling Skills
  • Alcohol and Drugs of Abuse Pharmacology
  • HIV/AIDS Risk Assessment and Risk Reduction
  • Ethics

There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor II (CADC II)

Bachelors Degree (minimum). Documentation of 300 hours of approved alcohol and drug education.

Education hours must include topical areas of:

  • Basic Counseling Skills
  • Group Counseling Skills
  • Alcohol and Drugs of Abuse Pharmacology
  • HIV/AIDS Risk Assessment and Risk Reduction
  • Ethics
  • Counseling Diverse Populations
  • ASAM or Assessment or Client Record Management
  • Dual Diagnosis

There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor III (CADC III)

Masters Degree (minimum). Documentation of 300 hours of approved alcohol and drug education.

Education hours must include topical areas of:

  • Basic Counseling Skills
  • Group Counseling Skills
  • Alcohol and Drugs of Abuse Pharmacology
  • HIV/AIDS Risk Assessment and Risk Reduction
  • Ethics
  • Counseling Diverse Populations
  • ASAM or Assessment or Client Record Management
  • Dual Diagnosis
  • Theories of Addiction Treatment

There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Continuing Education Requirements (CADC I, II, III)

Documentation of 40 hours of continuing education every two years.

There is no limit on the number of continuing education contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Certified Gambling Addictions Counselor – Level I

Proof of an entry level credentialing in a mental health or addictions discipline (CADC I). Documentation of 60 hours of approved problem/compulsive gambling education. Education hours must include:

30 Hours of Gambling Specific Training, such as:

  • Gambling History
  • Gambling Education
  • Gambling Client Assessment
  • Gambling Intake
  • Gambling Counseling
  • Gambling Case Management
  • Family & Public Policy Issues
  • Professional Responsibility and Ethics

 30 Hours of Gambling Related Training, such as:

  • Financial Planning & Budgeting
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Co-occurring Disorders

There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Certified Gambling Addictions Counselor – Level II

Proof of an advanced certification in a mental health or addictions discipline (CADC II, III). Documentation of 60 hours of approved problem/compulsive gambling education. Education hours must include:

Certified Gambling Addictions Counselor – Levels I and II

Documentation of 60 hours of continuing education every two years. 60 required continuing education hours are broken down into two categories:

Category One: Gambling Counselor Education (30 hour minimum)
Category Two: Counseling Education (30 hour maximum)
