The Center for Addiction Studies and Research

The Center for Addiction Studies and Research is a Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) accepted distance learning provider of education in the chemical dependency field. Distance learning hours are approved for Pennsylvania initial certification requirements only. There is no limit on the number of distance learning hours that can be applied toward the initial certification requirements.

 

Educational Requirements

Associate Addiction Counselor Level I (AAC Level I)

High School Diploma or GED.

Documentation of 100 hours of education relevant to the field of addiction of which 33 hours must be addiction-specific. There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Associate Addiction Counselor Level II (AAC Level II)

High School Diploma or GED.

Documentation of 200 hours of education relevant to the field of addiction of which 66 hours must be addiction-specific. There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC)

Bachelor's degree or higher.

Documentation of 300 hours education relevant to the field of addiction including 6 hours in professional ethics and responsibilities and 6 hours in communicable diseases. There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Certified Addiction Counselor Diplomate (CAC Diplomate)

Master's degree or higher.

Documentation of 180 hours education relevant to the field of addiction including 6 hours in professional ethics and responsibilities and 6 hours in communicable diseases. There is no limit on the number of contact hours that can be earned through home study distance learning trainings.

Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS)

This credential is an international credential that is recognized throughout the world via reciprocity.

Current and valid CAC credential or a master’s degree in a human service related field.

Documentation of 30 hours of PCB approved didactic education in the following clinical supervision domains: counselor development, professional and ethical standards, program development and quality assurance, performance evaluation, administration, and treatment knowledge.

Certificate of Competency in Problem Gambling

Must hold a current and valid CAC, CAC Diplomate, CCJP, CCDP, CCDP Diplomate, or CCS credential from the PCB.

Completion of 30 hours of PCB approved training specific to the gambling knowledge areas.
