The Center for Addiction Studies and Research is a Substance Abuse Certification Alliance of Virginia approved distance learning provider of education in the chemical dependency field. Distance learning hours are approved for Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC), Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP), Certified Prevention Professional (CPP), and Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) certification and continuing education requirements.

 

Educational Requirements

Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC)

Documentation of 270 hours of education in both alcohol and drug treatment.

There is no limit on the number of hours that can be earned through approved distance learning education.

Certified Criminal Justice (Addictions) Professional (CCJP)

Documentation of 270 hours of education. Education must be specifically related to the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the tasks within the IC&RC Criminal Justice Addictions performance domains. 6 of the 270 hours of education/training must be in professional ethics and responsibilities.

There is no limit on the number of hours that can be earned through approved distance learning education.

Certified Prevention Professional (CPP)

Documentation of 100 hours of prevention specific education. 50 hours of this training must be ATOD specific. 6 hours of this training must be prevention specific ethics training.

There is no limit on the number of hours that can be earned through approved distance learning education.

Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS)

Candidate must hold a current and valid Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC) credential or hold a specialty substance abuse credential in another professional discipline in the human services field at the master’s level or higher.

Documentation of 30 hours of SACAVA approved education/training in clinical supervision. This must include 6 hours of specific clinical supervision education and training in each of the following four domains: Assessment/Evaluation; Counselor Development; Management/Administration; and Professional Responsibilities.

Continuing Education Requirements (CAC, CCJP, CPS, CCS)

Documentation of 40 hours of continuing education every two years. The CCS certification requires 6 hours of clinical supervision specific training if the individual also holds a CAC certification.

There is no limit on the number of continuing education hours that can be earned through approved distance learning education.
