Home Heating Tips

  • Vacuum air vents, baseboard heaters and radiators regularly to remove dust that reduces heating efficiency.
  • If your baseboard heaters have movable deflectors or vents, be sure to open them in the winter and keep them closed in the summer.
  • Schedule annual seasonal tune-ups to keep your heating system functioning at its most efficient levels.

Home Cooling Tips

  • To get the best cooling efficiency and keep your cooling costs down, do NOT turn off your air conditioning when leaving the house for the day. Simply raise the thermostat 5-10 degrees. Reason? The air conditioning system has to work much harder to cool down the build up of heat in the walls and hard surfaces of your home that have gotten too hot.
  • Shade your room air conditioner from direct sunlight as this will reduce the machine’s workload.
  • Clean your air filters monthly and replace when dirty. This helps save energy and reduces dust and pollen in the air.

Energy Tips

  • Have your ducts sealed and insulated – this can save you hundreds of dollars each year in energy costs.
  • Prune shrubs that may block the airflow of your air conditioner or heat pump.
  • Install ceiling fans – these help air circulation and promotes cooling in the summer and heating efficiency in the winter.
  • Be sure you have adequate insulation in your attic, garage walls and basement.
